What are the chances of getting hiv/std from sharp objects?

Let me explain. If you picked up someones toe-nail clippers off the ground and didn’t know who they belonged too and accidentally cut (small cut) yourself with them, is there any chance you could get hiv/std’s from them?

Thank you.
There was no visible blood on it.

When I picked it up, the thing was open. When I closed it, it nipped my finger and left a small cut. I don’t remember it bleeding much. It still makes me nervous thinking about the possiblities.

IF the infection was still alive when it occurred yes

HIV is transmitted by blood or other body fluids. So unless the toenail has blood on it, zero chance.

No chance at all in the real world.

But for science sake, I will say that it is extremely improbable.

if rusty, because the porousness can trap a lot more blood; that’s why assassins prefer to use rusty darts, needles etc

  5. taylor Says:

only if it belonged to someone with hiv, who also cut themselves, and the blood was still wet enough to enter the wound of your cut.

    ….so no

no, but to be safe see your doctor also.

highly unlikely. there would have to be bodily fluid contact

    yea, but y would u?

i dont think so….. tiny tiny chance they would have to have blood on them and be really recently used… so I think you’ll be fine!!!

why would you do that anyway lol

i don’t have any clue how you would have accidentally cut yourself with a pair of toe-nail clippers that you picked up off of the ground. Obviously you were using them. There is almost no chance that you’ve gotten AIDS from them, but the chances of Hep C are quite high. Get checked out!

Nø, unless ÿou just picked up a toenail covered with blood of an HIV+ person and touched it to a cut on yoursêlf, and the virus actually survived long enough for transmission.

I don’t really think so. don’t worry about it. Isn ‘t STD mean sexually transmitted disease?

nah. even a healthcare worker that gets stuck with a needle from an hiv pos person only has a 3% chance of getting it, I am a healthcare worker and I have known personally 3 ppl that have stuck themselves with hiv pos needles and they didnt get it, and it’s been years. plus, hiv doesn’t live long outside the body. Hepatitis does, but even if the person who owned the clippers had hepatitis or something, odds are there was no blood on the clippers.

i think there is a great chance that u could get HIV…..but i dunno….and u dont kno who the Toe-nail clipper belonged to….maybe that person didnt have HIV or STD.
if ur concerned just go check blood.

    Luckily u dont……
    Best of luck

only if they had hiv and got blood on it and than you cut yourslef however u might be the fist to get it this way if it is possible i can tell u it is very unlikely

  16. Turtle Says:

It might be possable if the person was useing his toe to have sex with a girl that had a STD or HIV

  17. kk Says:

It’s *possible*, but a very very small chance. The other person’s blood or some kind of fluid would have to be on it for you to transmit hiv or std’s. Make sure you had totally disinfected it, though, with hydrogen peroxide and a bandaid.

No. To become infected with HIV you have to have unprotected sex, or share needled with an IV drug user. IF HIV gets on something like nail clippers, tweezers or the like, once the blood is dry the HIV is dead.

if the object has infected blood and it gets in your system there is a high chance to contract the virus
