cold sores are herpes type 1, and you get them as a result of the varicella virus. genital herpes are a mutation of type 1 and are called type 2. IF you give oral to someone while you have an active lesion on your mouth, yes, you can give them the virus on their genitals and it mutates into type 2, and it is not something they will thank you for. So avoid oral sex when you have a cold sore.

however even tho you say you know its not an “sti” do you know that it is sexually transmittable? if you give someone oral sex with or without an active coldsore you can give them genital herpes, which will make it hsv-1 genitally, at NO point in time will hsv-1 ever turn into hsv-2 (herpes simplex 2, commonly referred to as genital herpes). i stress this fact too because alot of people will say oh if you have herpes on your genitals its automatically hsv-2. this is completely false. if you don’t believe me look it up.
and you said “i know i dont have herpes” well thats false, you do have herpes. herpes simplex type 1… society has labeled hsv-1 orally as coldsores, however it still is herpes. even tho it has a socially acceptable name doesnt disregard the fact that it is herpes.

hsv-1 orally (coldsores) spreads 18% of the time without symptoms present
hsv-2 genitally spreads 15% of the time without symptoms present
hsv-1 genitally spreads 3% of the time without symptoms present.
so coldsores are the most contagious type of herpes! now performing oral sex with a coldsore present. thats like running off a cliff knowing theres no water below. its inevitable that person most likely will get genital herpes type 1 because of your coldsore.
so to clarify the person most likely will get genital herpes from your coldsore (oral herpes type 1). your saying will this person get coldsores or genital herpes? this is a nonsense question, coldsores are herpes, just oral herpes. the name coldsores vs genital herpes is not a difference of virus just a difference of location.
