How Is It My Husband Passed Genital Herpes To Me From Cold Sore But Didn’t Pass On Cold Sore?
me and my husband have been together 4 years now and always tried to watch out when he felt the cold sores coming on I just got diagnose with genital herpes but I do not have cold sores on my mouth and we kiss all the time why would it skip over? what are the chances of me passing genital herpes to him?

Oral herpes can be passed to the genitals through oral sex. It happens. There’s no particular reason why you didn’t get cold sores. People who have the virus can sometimes be contagious even when they don’t have a cold sore. Many of us already have the cold sore virus dormant in our bodies, and never have a flare up of cold sores. We contracted it as children, as it is a very common virus, and children pick it up easily as they often share food and drinks, and may be less concerned about hand washing and hygiene. Cold sores can be transmitted even when the person does not have a cold sore, though it is less likely to happen then.

Unless you caught it from someone else, and it is a different type, your chances of passing it to him are nonexistent. He already has it, he can’t catch it again in another location.
As for why you didn’t catch it in your mouth, that’s just poor luck. Or maybe he has HSV2, which is actually rarely found in the mouth and is more commonly seen on the genitals. In that case, you were most likely to get it below the belt and HE has the rarer case.

This happened to me too hun. I have no cold sores, but have genital hsv1 now.
And I also gave my boyfriend oral herpes back.
