The virus that causes genital warts can cause cervical cancer. The person who told you that the strains that cause warts is different than the cancer one isn’t true. There are over 50 known strains of the HPV virus and they are still studying which ones can cause cancer, because not all of them do, though they do know that at least 20 of them can. As for how long it can take, it may never, depending on how healthy you keep yourself and your own genetic predisposition to cancer. You may already have the beginning of it. There is no way to tell without a checkup and everybody reacts differently. Fortunately there is a vaccine out there that can innoculate you against the 12 most common types of HPV that can cause cancer. This is a question that your doctor needs to hear.

There are four kinds of HPV that can cause the majority of cervical cancer.
You may or may not get cancer form those four, but no guarantee. Safer to not have sex until you are married in a monogamous relationship or get the HPV inoculation.

yes they can but there are many types of HPV wich is the virus known and human papilloma which causes warts. one type causes warts.some types cuase cells to change on the cervix wich can lead to cancer if not treated right away but that type may or may not cuase warts. Usually though the type that actually cuases the warts is not the strain or type that cuases the cancer..they do DNA testing on the cells to determine wich type you have.you can also be infected with more than one type at a time and you can also test positive for it and then years later have a negative test you still carry the virus but its not effecting the cells…speak with the Dr about this i noticed on here many ppl give very wrong and sometimes harsh answers and some ppl think the VIrus HPV is cancer when it its not its a certin type that MAY cause cancer. Just remember they estimate that nearly 80% of the population has HPV and most show no symptoms at all even on pap tests!

I have had cervical cancer from hpv, but never had genital warts! I’m not a doctor, but I don’t believe one has to do with the other!
BTW, it’s been 14 year and no cancer!!

Some forms of HPV leads to cervical cancer. There is something called Gardisil which is used to prevent cervical cancer in people who have HPV. You should talk with your gyno about Gardisil. God Bless

Contracting HPV does not mean that you will definitely get cervical cancer. It means that you have an increased chance of it.
If you have genital warts, seek treatment. And don’t work yourself into a frenzy over what MIGHT happen.

Genital warts and cervical cancer and caused by different strains or “types” of HPV.
Each kind of HPV is responsible for ONE thing. So, for example, HPV types 6 and 11 (as well as many others) can ONLY cause genital warts. They can NOT cause cervical cancer or “turn into” cervical cancer.
In order to develop cervical cancer you HAVE to have a kind of HPV that can cause it. HPV types 16 and 18 account for 70% of cervical cancer cases.
Don’t worry too much! Just stay on top of your pap smears and you’ll be just fine!
