Can The Genital Herpes Virus Be Passed Onto A New Born Baby By Its Mother Through Breast Feeding?
This question is a serious question, so please give truthful answers. I have a friend that has the genital herpes virus and is pregnant, she wishes to breast feed her new born baby once its born, but didnt ask her doctor if it would be okay. Im trying to find information for her, so she can prepare herself and protect her baby once its born.

It will be safe for her to breastfeed. However if she has an active outbreak then I’m pretty sure they should do a c-section rather than normal delivery. I read somewhere that the Herpes virus can get into the baby’s eyes during a vaginal delivery and that’s really, really bad. I hope your friend’s Dr. knows she has this, for the sake of the baby.

Please inform the doctor.
The child will get herpes witha vaginal delivery.
It is difficult for a mother to pass on herpes to her newborn unless she has contacted herpes during the last three months of pregnancy or if she has active herpes during delivery. In that case, doctors recommend cesarean section.http://picturesofgenitalwarts.net/help-for-genital-warts/"

It cannot be passed through breast milk. Contact must be with the warts themselves within your pelvic area. Zovorax( not sure of spelling) is medicine that is used when you have genital warts or they can be froze off. The only way to catch the virus is through sexual contact or through a vaginal delivery.

More important problem than breast-feeding baby is that the infection will be pass to baby during birth so she must immediatey tell about this infection to her doctor.

Your friend can pass the herpes onto the baby if she is having an outbreak at the time of the birth. She will need to speak to her midwife and doctor and tell them she is a carrier. They will then check for an outbreak just before the birth. If an outbreak is not present then she can give birth naturally. If it is present she will need to have a c-section. Breastfeeding her baby will be safe as long as she does not have any lesions or an outbreak around her nipples whilst she is breastfeeding. If she only suffers from lesions around the vaginal area she is safe to breast feed as it is only if they are around the nipples. The infection cannot be passed through the breast milk itself. I hope that helps.
