In other words, when will I know if I have herpes?

Say you’ve been dating for several months and recently became official bf/gf… I want us to get tested regardless of how far we’re planning on going in the immediate future… just to know we’re both safe whatever we do.

But how long after you become official is it appropriate to have this discussion?

Is it detectable right away or is there a period of time where it’s not detectable? If so, how long is that period?

How early can a pap smear test detect any type of HPV after having intercourse with a person who might have carried it?

so for example, if a man found out that he potentially carries HPV and his current sexual partner might have it now, too, how soon can the virus be detected for her or would it be able to be detected right after they began having intercourse?

if the girl had an std how soon would the guy show signs of having one?

Is there any wait period for getting tested for Herpes or any other STD? Would a test show positive after 24 hrs or more likely a month?

I think I may have contracted genital herpes through my partner’s cold sore. It was not totally active at the time- it had already scabbed over and was almost healed. He has never had genital herpes and this is the only thing I can attribute it to. Does this now mean I could have type 1 or type 2 herpes?
