Oh okay, well I don’t have any questions about hvp warts. I was recently diagnosed with abnormal cells and my doctor said its a strand of hpv but I don’t warts or anything like that. I was just wondering if there is any way to get that, thats not sexually.

The other day, the doctor called and told me I tested postive for a high risk strain of HPV, and that I have abnormal cells. My gynecology appointment isn’t for a month, so what am I supposed to do until then?
Note: What I originally went in for was a pap smear and regular check up. I’ve also never been to an actual gynecologist. Never had a reason to.

Does HPV go away? Will my partner have it also? How does it affect my baby? I’m really frusturated because it seems as if everytime i go to the dr its always something different. Im beginning to not be able to handle it emotionally now. Would you please pass on your knowledge on HPV?

I am 15 weeks pregnant and I had my usual pap done and the doctor noticed something that looked like a skin tag, so she asked me if I have ever been tested positive for HPV? I have had several paps in the past and its always been normal. I haven’t gotten the results yet, so any info would help! Thanks!

Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is a sexually transmitted disease that is known as “the silent killer” because its symptoms are so ambiguous most people don’t know that they have it. A proven precursor to cervical and penile cancer, HPV can be deadly if left untreated. With 70 strains of the virus in existence, HPV is widespread and-since condoms don’t protect you-it infects over one million people per year in the United States alone. I was reading up on genital warts because I seem to have a bump down there… and I vaguely remember having a similar bump over a year ago.
The information I was reading is a little hard to understand. I was basically wondering if I would have HPV and genital warts could develop from it. Or do you get genital warts first and contract HPV from it?
Also I have had a few pap smears and the last two came up as abnormal, but I was not told they were HPV, so they just did a biopsy to make sure they weren’t cancerous. Wouldn’t they be able to tell right away if I had HPV from the pap? I always thought that is what it tested for.
Either way I have an appointment on Friday for a biopsy for my abnormal pap so I just wanted to get some input before the doctor appointment.

Annual pap was atypical (not quite “abnormal”) and the HPV tested was positive. Last year the pap was normal.
Is there any way of knowing whether or not the virus has been there for longer than a year? Could it have been there several years before it even would cause an atypical pap, or could it have just been obtained within the past year? (new boyfriend in the past year, and before that, was with the same partner for almost 4 years, if that matters)
